Content width for full width page (no sidebar)

  It appears that if I use the full-width page layout, my content with reduces so about 750 pixels – although the header is not affected as would be expected. How can I maintain the width displayed when a sidebar is used (approx 1100 pixels) when choosing not to display the sidebar. Seems to defeat the purpose of choosing full-width if the width of the display is reduced.
