ParticipantHave a AgentPress 1.x site that has been operating for years with many listings added. Would be interested in any tips/advice from anyone who has done this. AP 1.0 added listings as generic posts not using the AgentPress Listings Custom Post Type method. Suggestions for converting to this theme and handling legacy content would be appreciated.

MemberHey there,
I thought the original AgentPress site did recommend the AP Listings plugin? Even if it’s not being used, the simplest thing to do would be to use a post type switching plugin to switch the current “listings” posts over to the actual listing post type.
Do do that, you’d want to install the AP Listings plugin first.
Then, install the Post Type Switcher plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/post-type-switcher/) and bulk edit (or individually edit) those posts to assign them to the listings post type.
Of course the APListings plugin has a lot of other stuff involved (taxonomies, etc) that won’t be accounted for just by switching the post type. How is that data presently stored (i.e. in a custom field or just text in the post content?). There will likely be a good deal of manual transitioning just to make sure everything stays intact.
And I’m not even talking about switching themes yet, just getting set up with the APL plugin. 🙂
I might ask… why the need to transfer legacy listings? If they’re traditional home listings, I assume those listings aren’t still on the market? The transition might be an opportunity to prioritize the content you want to move forward with (and invest the time in transitioning) versus the content you don’t mind leaving behind if it’s not adding relevancy or value to your site. Of course, I don’t know your situation, so you may need to keep them all!
Anyhow, after that’s all said and done, you’d want to run the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin to re-crop the featured image associated with each post/listing to match the dimensions in the theme (you’ll probably only need to do this after switching to Winning Agent).
I hope that’s some good starter info. Feel free to post specific questions as they come up.
Cheers,

ParticipantThis site was installed with AP 1.0 when it first came out… don’t recall seeing the AP listings plugin available at that time. regarding legacy listings: True over time listings come off the market but this is a very busy agency and has about 40 current active listings and they would like an archive to show ‘sold’ activity. The property details were added in the custom fields that were available in a “properties details” section below the post editor area. (see example)

MemberAh, okay. Did some Googling and it looks like the leap from AgentPress 1.x to 2.x was pretty significant (2.x must have been where the APL plugin came into play).
Interesting thoughts on this comment thread – looks like the short answer is there’s not an simple migration path, but rather it’ll be a manual process. :/
