What a difference a year makes! Last year, real estate professionals were limping to the year’s end, exhausted by a frenzied housing market. Houses sold just as fast as they hit the MLS. Buyers struggled to get an offer accepted. And the prices – and commissions – were sky-high.
This year looks different. We’ve had some room to breathe. Most markets have seen slight slowdowns, but prices remain steady, with most areas continuing to experience price increases year over year. While we’re not seeing as many buyers competing for existing properties thanks to higher interest rates and increased inventory, homes are still selling, and people and still buying.
This slower pace isn’t all bad. We’ve heard many agents say that the 2021 pace simply wasn’t sustainable. Agents and lenders were on the verge of burnout. This year felt less hectic. And after we catch our collective breath, it’s time to look forward to next year.
Moving Forward to 2023
It’s been a bit of a whirlwind over the past year. Inflation and rising interest rates have made homeownership all but impossible for many. And that cool off has meant a slowdown for real estate agents, mortgage brokers, and other real estate professionals. That slowdown does represent some lost income, but it also frees up your valuable free time: time for family, friends, and yes, more time to invest back into your marketing, website, and business.
We don’t know for sure what the future holds for the housing market, but most experts agree that 2023 will see more of the same: slowing sales, but steady home prices. Some parts of the country may see price decreases, but others will see steady or increasing home values.
