If you’ve been around a while (like yours truly), you’ve seen wallpaper trends come and go. Wallpaper has made a resurgence in recent years, thanks to bold prints, new printing techniques, and easy-to-remove options that anyone will love. The wallpaper trends of 2021 add pop, pizazz, lots of personality – and even touches of the past – to your home.

The Top 5 Wallpaper Trends of 2021

Color schemes and popular design trends change quickly. Wallpaper – particularly removable products and other easy-to-remove options – make changing your décor simpler than ever. Check out this year’s hot wallpaper trends to rejuvenate your space.

1. Peel and Stick Wallpaper

Updating your interior design can feel like a big decision. However, peel and stick wallpaper makes redecorating less of a commitment. This wallpaper trend is particularly popular among renters, as it allows residents to change out color palettes and design elements quickly.

Peel and stick wallpapers make it easy to personalize a space without making permanent changes to walls. And in a time when many of us are still stuck at home, having a simple and stress-free way to make our homes feel fresh and new is incredibly attractive.

2. Trompe-l’oeil

Wallpaper that looks like marbleTrompe- l’oeil, literally translated as “tricks of the eye,” is a design trend that mimics a particular material. Trompe- l’oeil wallpaper trends are all the rage this year. Some prints imitate tiled walls, wood paneling, or fabric.

Incorporating trompe-l’oeil prints into your space can add depth and interest without significant expense. Installing a wallpaper wall that mimics tile, for instance, is much more cost-effective than actually installing tile. And when this trend goes away, you can remove the wallpaper and add the new design du jour.

3. Florals and Natural Prints

Floral prints and natural elements have long been trendy in interior design. In 2021, wallpaper trends include floral and natural prints, helping homeowners bring the outdoor inside.

Leaf print wallpaper trendsAs humans, we have an innate desire to be surrounded by nature and beauty. In a year that has kept us mostly away from exploration and travel, decorating with natural prints is an attractive concept. Countless wallpapers incorporate natural elements, like floral prints, leaf and plant prints, and even wallpapers made from organic elements like cork and wood fibers.

These prints are incredibly versatile, too. Bring in bold colors or stick with a more neutral pallet. Whatever you choose, floral and nature prints add a touch of calm to your space.

4. Throwback Prints

Perhaps one of the most surprising wallpaper trends is the nod to generations long gone by. The “grandmillenial style,” as it’s been dubbed, pulls elements from nostalgic homes of the past. Antique furniture, vintage dining ware, and crocheted throws that once dated a home are suddenly back in style.

Keeping with the grandmillenial trend, wallpaper designs are harkening back to prints from past generations. Chintz, toile, and antique floral prints are suddenly en vogue. Of course, when incorporating this traditional style, it’s important to choose a color pallet that works with your current décor. And as a general rule, the size of the print should parallel the size of your space. The larger the room, the larger the wallpaper print you can choose.

5. Murals

Mural wall with flowersIf you’re looking for a significant overhaul of your home’s décor, consider mural wallpaper. This eye-popping trend makes a statement in any space and can dramatically shift the feel of your home’s interior design.

From bold colors to subtle statement walls, this wallpaper trend offers something for everyone. And you can transform your space without buying new furniture or other accent pieces. Instead, find a wallpaper mural that complements your current color palette and design elements. You’ll be amazed how different your current room feels with this bold addition.

While it might be hard to believe, wallpaper is hot in 2021. While the above certainly aren’t the only wallpaper trends this year, they are some of the most popular. Are you a fan of wallpaper? Let us know! Share your opinions in the comments or contact us here!
